We Have Answers!
Tirzepatide activates GLP-1 and GIP receptors. These two hormone pathways help regulate appetite, fullness, and blood sugar. By reducing hunger and slowing digestion, Tirzepatide can help you feel satisfied with less food. It’s most effective when paired with balanced nutrition and regular physical activity.
Tirzepatide is generally considered for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related health condition. Eligibility also depends on your medical history, current medications, and overall health. Your Desert Glow provider will review all of these during your consultation.
Tirzepatide isn’t appropriate for everyone. Be sure to share your full medical history with your provider, especially if you have:
- A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
- A history of pancreatitis or gallbladder disease
- Severe gastrointestinal conditions, such as gastroparesis
- A current pregnancy, plan to become pregnant, or are currently breastfeeding
- A prescription for insulin or other diabetes medications that may need adjustment
Tirzepatide is given once a week, ideally on the same day each week. Treatment usually begins at a low starting dose, which may be increased every four weeks based on how you respond. Your provider will determine the dose and schedule that’s right for you.
Some patients notice a reduced appetite within the first few weeks. More noticeable weight loss typically develops over several months of consistent treatment. Results vary based on your dose, your overall health, and your lifestyle habits. Our team will track your progress and help you set realistic expectations along the way.
The most common side effects are digestive, including:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Vomiting
- Indigestion
- Stomach discomfort
Some patients also notice mild redness or irritation at the injection site. These effects are usually mild and tend to ease as your body adjusts, especially after each dose increase. Let your provider know if symptoms persist so your plan can be adjusted.
Safety and Medical Supervision
Because Tirzepatide is a prescription medication, medical oversight matters. Serious risks are uncommon, but they can include:
- Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
- Gallbladder problems, including gallstones
- Low blood sugar, particularly when combined with certain diabetes medications
- Dehydration from digestive side effects, which may affect kidney function
Contact your provider right away if you experience severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, or signs of an allergic reaction. Close monitoring helps catch concerns early and keeps your treatment on track.
